Neuro-Inflammation

From Theresa Hernandez

Theresa Hernandez, APN/CNP

Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner @ Family First Functional Medicine

Theresa is an experienced functional medicine Nurse Practitioner. She is a licensed Advanced Practice Nurse, and Certified Nurse Practitioner.

Theresa believes that listening to her patients’ problems and concerns will tell her more than any physical exam ever will. She loves what she does because she gets to listen to people’s stories, validate their concerns, educate them on their health/illnesses, and encourage them to be an advocate for the own health – sharing a lot of laughter, smiles, and stories in the meantime.

She writes about the rise of neuro-inflammation:

In the past decade, incidence of Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders (PANS) and Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infection (PANDAS) has been steadily on the rise. PANS and PANDAS presents in many ways, but some include anxiety, OCD, tic disorder, issues with motor skills and behavior, fear of food or food restrictions- and more due to neuroinflammation. I was horrified when I saw my little boy (6 years old) develop a tic with his hands and his tongue/lips after an infection but luckily I had the tools and knowledge and knew what to do.
