My name is Shannon Matsuno, and I am an Integrative Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) at The Brown Center & Clinics, a fully virtual practice serving patients ages 13–65. I am currently accepting new patients with no wait list. My approach to care is collaborative, evidence-based, and rooted in the belief that mental health treatment should be both accessible and deeply personalized.
I bring a strong clinical foundation in psychiatric nursing as well as forensic nursing. As a former SANE-A (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner–Adult/Adolescent), I developed extensive experience working with survivors of trauma and providing compassionate, trauma-informed care during some of the most vulnerable moments in a person’s life. That background continues to shape my practice today. I prioritize emotional safety, empowerment, and respect in every patient interaction, recognizing the profound ways trauma can influence both mental and physical health.
My primary clinical areas of focus include trauma-related disorders and perinatal mental health. I work closely with individuals navigating pregnancy, postpartum transitions, infertility, pregnancy loss, and the identity shifts that often accompany parenthood. I also treat ADHD, mood disorders, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and a wide range of other psychiatric conditions. My treatment plans are individualized and may include medication management, supportive therapy, lifestyle interventions, and integrative strategies tailored to each patient’s goals and values.
Creating a welcoming and inclusive space is central to my practice. I provide LGBTQ-affirming care and strive to ensure that all individuals feel seen, respected, and supported without judgment. Mental health care should honor each person’s lived experience, culture, and identity.
